And if we go in and land on a bracket, both of the brackets are selected. Pressing delete at this point would delete them both (haven't you ever wished for a command to do that, that would hit the right bracket at the other end first time? ... and you don't even have to go back manually to where you were before), and would put them into adjacent elements on the kill-ring. (Versor has an ``insert around'' command, that will surround the selection with a pair of things from the kill-ring.)
